Western, USA, 1927



Tom Rawlins is informed by his lawyer that he has fallen heir to the Cross P Ranch, but he is held up and his identification papers are stolen. Arriving in Cactus City, he is innocently involved in a bank robbery and is unable to prove his identity, though Sheriff Conway and his daughter, Sue, believe him. Santine, the crooked foreman who wants to use the ranch for his own purposes, conspires with the lawyer and Chicago Charlie (who is posing as Tom) to incite the townspeople against Tom; but Tom escapes and with the aid of Bill, a ranch hand, rescues Sue from Charlie and the lawyer. In a climactic fight, Santine is killed falling over a cliff, and Tom regains his ranch.
