William James Tucker, aka Bo, a rejected and resented father sets out to enjoy what he believes to be his last day on earth when he is hit by a car driven by Abigail Foxworth. Undeterred, Bo gets up and dusts himself off to continue his day but is pursued by Abaigail, a rich widow who later joins him in his journey. The two of them share an unforgettable day together in celebration of life and discover the mystery of what lies between heaven and earth.
