Man shouldn't tamper with the unknown
A secret US Government installation, deep in the Puerto Rican jungle, is decimated when Hurricane Hugo sweeps the island. The hideous creatures contained in the installation escape. For the next ten years, locals keep clear of the area, but reports of creatures roaming the jungle, killing and sucking the blood from livestock, abound and the 'myth' of the Chupacabra is born. Sightings are few and the official line is that the creatures are simply some sort of large, wild cats. But Fiona Rodriguez, a crack Government zoologist, has a burning need to know more. Her father had been stationed at the base when the hurricane knocked it out. His death had always been blamed on the storm but files were 'lost' or classified: the truth was hidden. Now Fiona and her husband Jim are on the island as 'tourists', but with a view to finding the exact location of the old base, a long-guarded secret. But an incident brings the Chupacabra myth right to the fore: the body of their first human victim - an American tourist - is found, drained of blood, his girlfriend remains missing. At the request of the Puerto Rican authorities, a team of US military is sent in to find the base and 'clean up'. But the creatures attack the team and only one severely injured, deranged soldier makes it out alive. His unhinged ramblings indicate that the Chupacabra is a dangerous monster killing machine: the safety of everyone on the island is threatened. More determined than ever, Fiona, Jim and a crack team of hunters, set off along the trail of the first expedition. In an almighty, explosive shoot out, deep in the caves under Puerto Rico's mountains, Fiona's team engages the colony of Chupacabra...
