Jerry Grant, scion of a wealthy family, accidentally hits model Jeanette Blake with his car. After being rushed to the emergency hospital, Jeanette is examined and deemed relatively unharmed. When Jerry is examined, however, the police find he has been drinking. Jeanette kindly claims she tripped and fell, saving Jerry from arrest. The accident caused Jerry to miss a date with his fiancée, Louella Fenwick, which causes the ire of both Jerry's sister Diana and his father David, who insist he settle down. Jerry, however, does not want his future decided for him and woos Jeanette, with whom he falls in love. After Jerry confesses to Louella that he does not wish to marry her, she admits that she, too, is in love with someone else and plans to elope. When David opposes his marriage to Jeanette because of her lowly social status, Jerry tries to elope, but Jeanette insists on waiting for a proper church wedding. After having Jeanette investigated, and firing someone from his own advertising agency who refuses to explain a personal check he gave to Jeanette at one time, David convinces Jeanette she would be a bad influence on Jerry and gives her $10,000 to dump him. Without Jeanette, Jerry applies himself to working, but misses her terribly. Jerry's mother Henrietta takes the matter into her own hands and finds Jeanette at her friend Harriett's apartment. There she discovers that the personal check Jeanette received was for an operation for her handicapped nephew. Jeanette agrees to see Jerry again, but as Henrietta leaves, her car collides with a truck and she is rushed to the hospital. Jeanette offers herself as a donor for a blood transfusion to Henrietta, which establishes respect for her in David's eyes and reunites her with Jerry.
