GETTING HAL is the first feature film from the "Who Wants To Be A Movie Star?" project. This unique concept was introduced by a group of filmmakers, who, together with BLOCKBUSTER, YAHOO! AUCTIONS, MP3.COM and DNA STUDIO, banded together to produce a film where the lead and supporting roles were auctioned off to the highest bidders. Which leaves only one question to be answered: Are YOU ready to be a Movie Star? After years of struggling to make ends meet, DIXIE RANDOLPH (Delicia Lanza) is about to see her dream come true. In just 48 hours, she will be the proud new owner of the ice skating rink that she loved as a child. At the crowded rink, Dixie celebrates with her handsome and charming boyfriend HAL (Brad Rowe "Full Frontal," TV's "The 70's," "Leap of Faith"). Hal watches as Dixie glides gracefully across the ice, completely unaware of an out of control skater speeding towards her. Without warning, the skater slams into Dixie and knocks her unconscious. Dixie awakens in a hospital room to find Hal by her side. He informs her that the doctors have discovered no serious injuries, but that she will have to stay overnight for observation. After getting Dixie to sign what she thinks are insurance documents, Hal arranges to pick her up the following morning. When morning comes and Hal is a no-show, Dixie is forced to take a taxi home. Upon arriving at her house, Dixie discovers that the closets and dressers have been cleaned out - Hal has packed up all of his belongings and disappeared. But Dixie's problems are just beginning: her ATM card no longer works, her bank account has been drained of her life savings, and worst of all, the con-artist responsible for everything is none other than Hal. Receiving little help from the police, Dixie decides to turn to a professional . . . well, sort of a professional... PHIL HANNIFAN (Brian Doyle-Murray "Snow Dogs," "Wayne's World," "Groundhog Day") is an overworked, overweight, and over-thehill private investigator with stains on his shirt from lunch - the lunch he ate two weeks ago. Sole instructor at the Nick Harris School for Detectives, Phil teaches P.I. skills to an odd assortment of would-be detectives. Dixie explains her predicament to Phil, and he reluctantly agrees to take her case under one condition: her case will become the class project - a field assignment for his current crop of P. I. hopefuls. Dixie quickly agrees, and what ensues is a comical array of disguises, spy gadgets and "Magnum P.I." obsessions that lead our bumbling sleuths on their way to GETTING HAL.
