It is June of 1954, and James Dean (CASPER VAN DIEN "Starship Troopers," TV's "Beverly Hills 90210"), is starring in his first feature film, "East Of Eden." He meets Pier Angeli (CARRIE MITCHUM TV'S "The Bold and the Beautiful"), a charming Italian actress, who is also making a film on the Warner Brothers lot. The young couple quickly fall madly in love -- two talented people on the threshold of their careers. But a poison seeps into their idyllic love affair, one that will ultimately lead to the destruction of both lives. To Pier's mother (DIANNE LADD Oscar nomination "Rambling Rose"), James Dean is a fair-haired American with no manners or class, interested in only fast food and faster cars. Mrs. Pierangli manages to convince Pier that she is honor-bound to marry an Italian Catholic. So, while James Dean is away in New York shooting a television show, to her mother's relief, Pier agrees to marry the Italian musician, Vic Damone. After the successful release of "East Of Eden", James Dean becomes a huge teenage idol overnight. Despite the fact that Dean has a reputation for being "difficult," with the help of his manager, Jane Deacy (CONNIE STEVENS TV's "Baywatch," "Back To The Beach"), he becomes one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. When the shooting of "Rebel Without a Cause" begins, Dean's passion for racing cars intensifies so much that Jack Warner (MIKE CONNERS TV'S "Mannix"), head of Warner Brothers, emphatically forbids James Dean from racing -- including speeding around the lot on his beloved Triumph motorcycle -- until the final frame on "Giant" has been shot. As the filming of "Giant," directed by George Stevens (ROBERT MITCHUM "Tombstone," "Cape Fear") draws to a close, Dean acquires the fastest production sports car in the world -- the Porsche Spyder. After a quick "good-bye" to his father, Winton (Joseph Campanella "Body Chemistry"), James Dean heads for the race in Monterey, anxious to hone his racing skills behind the wheel of the "Little Bastard." His mechanic Rolf settles in the passenger seat and James Dean sets out on the journey that will end in his death. As the sun sets on a dust blown intersection of a lonely stretch of highway near Salinas, California, James Dean's Porsche collides with an errant Ford and the Spyder spins out of control. Rolf is thrown clear and survives . . . but James Byron Dean makes his final exit, crushed by the embrace of his car and the memory of his true love, Pier Angeli.
