Robert Holton, who works as a laborer for a large steel company, lives in contentment with his wife and child, sharing his house with George Rand, a good friend, who has invented a new process for refining steel. George insists that Robert receive half share of the proceeds of this process, and Robert, acting for George and himself, goes to the steel company, which makes him an attractive offer. Robert is willing to accept, but his wife, June, does not feel that the offer is high enough and undertakes herself to speak to the board of directors, which she forces to promote George to the company's presidency. With the sudden advent of riches and prestige, Robert loses his sense of values and becomes involved with Clarice Clement, an adventuress, who persuades him that his wife is involved with George in a romantic intrigue. Robert begins divorce proceedings, from which he is deterred only at the last minute, when he realizes that he loves his wife and child too much to part from them. Robert and June are reconciled, and he comes to realize that she has been faithful to him all along.
