An adaptation of Robert Pine's one-act play which chronicles an insurance agent's solitary dinner in a New York coffee shop. The agent, who has literary aspirations, becomes interested in his waitress, and he soon analyzes every word and gesture she makes, searching for clues to her identity. After fantasizing about her, he finally finds himself face to face with the waitress herself.
