Society woman Gussie Berry asks psychiatrist Dr. Trenkle to visit her son Randolph, who refuses to get out of bed. Trenkle recommends the companionship of underpriviledged children as an antidote for Randolph's self-absorption. Gussie immediately places an ad, which is seen by Danny Burns and his gang, the "Dead End Kids," who need a place to hide out after they destroy a glassworks factory. Taking a strong dislike to the boys, Randolph tries to have them sent back to the city, but his girl friend, Penny Brandt, convinces him to make friends with them. Despite the apparent reconciliation, Randolph continues to play tricks on the boys and they reciprocate. On Randolph's birthday, Danny's cousin Buck appears, pretending to be a social worker. Actually, he intends to rob the Berrys that evening. Danny tries to talk Buck out of his plans, and when he fails, the boys try to overcome Buck's gang. They succeed with Randolph's help, and when the police arrive, the boys return to the city to face their charges. Randolph's uncle, who is a judge, offers to help them.
