Abraham Lincoln Boggs is a small town country lawyer and county prosecutor who never prosecutes too ruthlessly if he believes that the defendant is innocent. Link's philosophy earns him the emnity of the town boss Ralston, who starts a petition to recall the prosecutor. However, when Marco, a notorious racketeer, obtains a change of venue for his trial, resulting in a transfer to Link's jurisdiction, the small town attorney determines to bring the gangster to justice. Just before the trial begins, however, Marco requests a meeting with Link in which he informs the prosecutor that he can prove that Link's daughter Honey is not his child at all, but the offspring of a convicted murderess. Fearing that the knowledge of her true parentage might destroy Honey, Link agrees to throw out the case in return for Marco's silence. As a result of Marco's acquittal, Link is deposed from office, and Tom, the young attorney who is in love with Honey, is elected in his place. As Tom prepares to take Marco back to trial, Marco offers Ralston a bribe to make sure that Tom drops the case, but when Tom refuses, an angry confrontation occurs between Marco and Ralston, during which Marco shoots Ralston. Honey, who was on her way to Ralston's office, is circumstantially entangled in the crime and is accused of murder and brought to trial. Link undertakes his daughter's defense, and although he knows that Marco committed the murder, he is unable to prove it. In the courtroom, Link perpetrates a clever ruse when he tricks Marco by threatening to kill him, causing the gangster to draw his gun and fire at Link. When the markings on Marco's bullet are revealed to match those found in Ralston's body, Marco is brought to justice and Honey is cleared of all charges.
