Anthony Hopkins won the Emmy as Outstanding Actor for his portrayal of Adolph Hitler in this dramatization by prolific John Gay of James P. O'Donnell's book depicting the events surrounding Der Fuehrer's final days in and around his underground hideout. Piper Laurie's Magda Goebbels earned her an Emmy Award nomination as Outstanding Supporting Actress, and another nomination went to the film's sound mixer.
