The Gatekeeper

The elements of a boy's typical coming of age film are most always the same - a school-aged setting, a best friend, a love interest and her jackass boyfriend. The Gatekeeper is guilty of all of these things, but adds the missing piece, that subtle, often overlooked element than can really make one feel for a character - Zombies. Unlike Joe College, Bruce Johnson isn't going to finally give her that love letter than he wrote freshman year - nor is he going to catch her just moments before she steps on that international flight, because frankly, Bruce doesn't have the balls. It's going to take something much less sappy than a kiss in a rain, something much more realistic, much more drastic. That something is coming his way, and it wants to eat his brains.
